It's sad,
To be the Mayor of Jerusalem.
It is terrible,
How can any man be the mayor of a city like that?
What can he do with her?
He will build, and build, and build.
And at night
The stones of the hills round about
Will crawl down
Towards the stone houses,
Like wolves coming
To howl at the dogs
Who have become men's slaves.
(Yehuda Amichai, Poems of Jerusalem)
All pictures in this gate were taken from the book "Jerusalem/Skyline".
It is a book of aerial photographs of Jerusalem, which casts a different
and unique perspective on the city and its surroundings.
Here is a view from a different angle; old and new. Of ancient Jerusalem
steadily restored alongside modern Jerusalem which is constantly being
developed. Encounters of different panoramas, architectural styles and
historical periods. Various seasons of the year, a blend of summer with
the snow. We peek into the different neighborhoods and observe the roofs,
squares, streets and gardens, along with the numerous historical buildings
which beautify the city. We have the opportunity to search for new ways of
categorizing the city, a city which, one might have thought, has been
categorized in every possible way, and yet, as is always the case with
Jerusalem, we are always surprised to find a new, unique and breathtaking
way of seeing it."
