Maps Of Jerusalem Gate - Step # 3
Printed Maps Of Jerusalem
G. Braun & F. Hogenberg 1575
Kaplan Collection, 33x42cm (75k)
In the second half of the sixteenth century, Europe experienced many
changes such as the beginning of cartography and print. Many maps
created in those days were drawn under the influence of Columbus
(1492), Vasco De-Gama (1499) and Magelan's (1522) voyages. The Maps
can be divided into two categories: Maps that describe Jerusalem as it
was at that time and maps that attempted to depict Jerusalem in it's
past glory as imagined by the artist.
This map was published in the first world Atlas among maps of
the four continents; Europe, Africa, Asia and America.
